Wedding weekends.

My friends and I have been busy with a couple of girlfriends' wedding preparations. Last Sunday we threw a bridal shower party for Ayoy.

It started out as wholesome fun with lots of good food and a few parlor games--

Ayoy and her cousin Lea modelling their toilet paper wedding gowns

--and we handed out recipe cards (which I hand painted and which Istin digitally reproduced) for guests to fill up with their own cooking contributions because Ayoy doesn't know how to cook (just like me hehe).

It slowly turned into a raunchy night of jokes, double entendres and outright iskandalo.

Istin pretending to look shocked. But she wrote that word really. Haha.

Pero wagi itong game na ito:

[The answer stuck on the back of the hat is "Sinigang".]

Marnie: Nakakain ba ito?
Ayoy: Oo!
Marnie: Ulam?
Ayoy: Oo!
Marnie: Maalat?
Ayoy: Urhmmm, hinde.
Marnie: Maasim?
Ayoy: OO!!!
Marnie: Barbecue?

Hahahah!

[I left out all the other details to protect the, errrm, innocent and the pretending to be innocent. Hihihi.]

Two weeks after Yoyi's wedding on Saturday is Sel's wedding. Hectic! (n_n)

Trick or treat.

Trick.

I attended the New Worlds Alliance Halloween Ball last night at the Hard Rock Café in my Josie and the Pussycats rockstar get-up. Some time during the intermission a magician (who happens to be Bobby Manox's expat boss) went onstage for his hatful of tricks. As magic shows usually go, Mr. Campbell asked for a couple of volunteers. Rej enthusiastically volunteered for me and I was called onstage.

I thought I was going to save myself from further embarassment by being game about it so I went together with the guy Rej and the others volunteered for. After asking a few run-of-the-mill questions about myself and showing the audience his props for the next trick, Mr. Campbell then proceeded to tie two bandannas together with a knot. He stuffed the knotted ends down the front of my tank top (!), and he held the loose corner of one bandanna, while the other volunteer held the other one. He informed the audience that he intended to pull the knotted bandannas through my body.

I held fast to my tank top as they counted to three. I had no idea how the old guy did it, but instead of making the things pass through my upper torso, he pulled the bandannas out of my top revealing a white brassiere knotted in between. Then everybody laughed. It was a pretty amazing trick, but how I wish it wasn't me up there on stage getting teased about that bra. It definitely wasn't mine.

Treat.

Last Saturday our village had a (somewhat advanced) trick or treat thing for the kids. My sister had me set up the chocolate fountain while she and my nephew prepared the treats for the kiddies.

Here's Kyla and Kiwi dressed up for the event. Heheh.

...

Yesterday afternoon right before that Hard Rock fiasco, I went to Ayala Heights with a bunch of INKie friends to judge the Halloween Costume event thingy. The heat was unbearable but it was fun! It was amazing to see how all these kids put up with fussy parents just for this event. Heheh.

Bubble girl! She's very cute and she always poses for the camera when asked nicely.

This little Cleopatra won last year when she did Kampanerang Kuba, complete with facial prosthetics. She didn't get a prize this year though.

Chick boy. One of our co-judges wore a chicken suit. I should have taken a photo of him with this kid and Oishi's Cuckoo bird (who was also at the event).

Ito ang career! This very well-behaved baby won the top prize for her age group. It looked liked her parents took a lot of pains converting the baby stroller into a giant clam, complete with seaweeds and fish toys.

Siguro taga-Mountain Province ang batang ito. Heheh. I bet when that kid turns 15 he will burn all his bahag photos and cringe at the indignity his parents made him go through. Hehehe.

There were several Superboys at the event, but this boy was the cutest by far. He kept making cute faces at us while he went up on stage with the other kids for the costume parade. Pogi! (n_n)

Police boy was caught checking out military boy's belt gear.

Race car driver almost ran over my foot with his battery operated wheels.

The hippy chick and the lady bug.

Oh lookee. A little padawan! He could sever his arm with that light saber thingy.

Afro girl.

And the top winner is -- SUGAT! SUGAT! SUGAT! -- the severe head trauma patient. It was tough picking just one winner but we decided this boy should get the prize 'cause he went outright gross while the rest of the kids went the scary-cute route. And besides, ang galing ng kanyang homemade costume! Heheh.

Judges' photo op with the winnah! Hee. Ü (Not in photo: Brendan, who was holding the phonecam. Heheh.)

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

TIPON: Artists Organizing shifts away from the traditional focus on individual artistic genius in recognition of the creativity, inspiration, and accomplishments derived from working together.

Six groups from different parts of the country are featured in TIPON to represent a sampling of contemporary art groups. More than merely anchoring on regional identities, the exhibit tells of different motives and bases for artists to come together and organize themselves. It also looks into how the groups, in the process, awaken to their own identity as an artist community, and how they contribute to the development of individual members, of the art scene, and of society at large. Each group establishes their unmistakable character in TIPON.

Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang I.N.K.), an organization of children's books illustrators, makes a statement on how the group is perceived to be as carefree as their creations, contrary to the maturity and professionalism that is required and delivered to make everything appear as child's play.

Anting-Anting, based in Cavite, simulates an artist's studio to put forward the experience of personal friendships and shared artistic fervor that sustain the tight-knit group.

The Pampanga Arts Guild articulates their pride on the Kapampangan cultural identity that is strongly bonded to the environment. The group rose to the challenge of the Pinatubo eruption with artistic passion and creativity.

Davao Artists' Foundation reflects on a common aspiration to resolve identities and other contentious concerns within their group, an umbrella organization of smaller art groups in Davao.

Lunâ Art Collective from Cebu engages the community in their public art by dealing with socio-political issues. In the exhibit, they present a street shrine to a local Cebuano who has fallen victim to violence.

Produksyon Tramontina, a Bacolod-based group, came to life with the advent of affordable and availability of digital film technology. They merge spectatorship and active participation in their video installation for the exhibit.

TIPON: Artists Organizing will be on view at the Upper Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum from October 20 until February 23, 2006.

The Metropolitan Museum is located at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas
Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Manila. Museum hours are 10am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday. For inquiries, call 523-7855 or 536-1566, or email info@metmuseum.ph.

Conversations.

Thursday

Met up with Kathy, Zarah and Owel at Gerry's Park Square.

I proposed a toast "to better lovelives."

Owel protested. "Bakit lovelife lang? Bakit hindi life in general na lang?"

Zarah saw my point immediately. "Kasi kapag okay ang lovelife, the rest will follow."

And I said, "Financial and personal success, we can pretty much manage on our own. Family problems, we can solve up to a certain point. Ang pera pwedeng kitain. Pero ang lovelife, prayers na lang 'yan."

And so the four of us raised our cocktail glasses and beer bottles "to better lovelives."

An Usher DVD was playing on the overhead projector.

Owel: Sorry, I can't dance. My crotch is wet.

Friday

After Indi's despedida get-together at CPK Glorietta, I tagged along with Luis and Yvette to EBTG Night at Big Sky.

Chimay beer. Chillitees. More toasts to better lovelives. Girl love. (Hee.)

Still at Big Sky:

me: Are you done flirting with the girls yet?
JP: I'm never done.
