Lane Smith, I love you!!!

Shet. He's my favoritest illustrator in the whole wild world [sic]. Hehehe... Tas ang cute pa niya. Hayyy...

***

Neil Gaiman, I love you, too! He recently wrote about the possibility of touring the Philippines, and I really, really hope he does come over. (Pero pucha, I can almost feel it, 'yung pakikipagsiksikan sa lahat ng tao para makapagpa-autograph...)

***

Graham Coxon, I love you! Wala lang. Hehehe...

***

May isa pa nga pala akong mahal, pero sa kanya ko na lang sasabihin. :-P

Promise & compromise.

Two important words for today, and for as long as I shall remember. One more project to go and I will be able to sleep better.

***

This past week has been one of the most horrible proverbial rollercoaster rides I've been through and I'm glad it's over. I definitely feel better now.

And because I'm not as miserable anymore, I will now inflict misery upon you by posting the following pics. Heh heh heh...

***

Two Saturdays ago, we went to Meh & Billy's wedding. It was a small, simple wedding attended by relatives, a few political personalities and a handful of friends. Of course, there were the ubiquitous photographers-- the kind who sell you photos of yourselves superimposed over wine glasses, or framed beside calendars-- who called our attention with a 'Smile, Miss Byutipul/Ser!' for a snapshot.

Calendar girl and guy:

Buti na lang, ginawa lang kaming kalendaryo. Pwedeng gupitin at i-crop. Mabi-bwiset lang ako kapag nilagay mukha ko sa baso, promise.

Shempre utu-uto kami at binili namin 'yung mga litrato. It will only make me wonder what these people do to those unsold photos. *shudder*

Yesterday's launch at the Shang was fun. Although I was very distracted (to say the least) I was able to make the most of it by taking advantage of the freebies. Hehehe...

I had a tarot reading. I can't say much about it except that the guy was probably gifted because, uninformed, he pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Then I subjected myself to this huge, pink, Japanese contraption which printed small suns and moons on my fingernails (which immediately got smudged with the nail polish top coat because I was being stupid). I had to take it off with acetone as soon as I got home-- they looked like stigmata on the fingernails. (Lumabas 'yung pagka-ignorante ko ha, dun lang ako nakakita ng ink jet printer na pang-kuko hehehe... Ang galing talaga ng mga ponjaps. Gusto ko na tuloy ng nail art booth dito sa bahay.)

I exploited the perks of free Epson printing at the digital photo booth. I had two pictures taken, and I asked for two copies of the second one. Hehehe...

Plus I got a kewl Mango JAM shirt and colored pencils for being cute, just like the rest of the editorial staff. Hehehe... ;-P

Astig no? :-) (Boo! Di ka kasi pumunta.)

Special thanks to those who made their presence felt, physically or otherwise. *mwah*

Inner strength.

One cannot imagine how much effort it takes to be (emotionally) strong in trying times, or at least appear so in front of other people, specially to the ones s/he holds dear.

I guess that's mostly the reason why I keep to myself during these moments. It saves me the effort, and my friends the grief of having to put up with me. I know there are people who don't mind doing that, being the real friends that they are (thank you). I don't mind being a sounding board for other people, either, but still, I find myself embarrased and apologetic for unloading emotional baggage when I have to.

***

Yesterday morning, Jovi & Coi's dad passed away. The Reyes family was as surprised as I am, because they had no idea what Tito Jun was going through all this time.

He was the image of the invincible father figure, immune from all troubles and all sicknesses. Jovi said he hardly ever got sick, and he always told his children not to let ill health get the best of them. She only saw him cry once, when a favorite relative died.

He sneaked out of the house on motorbike when every one is asleep, for secret trips to the hospital. And until two or three days ago (the time he was rushed to the ICU), his family knew nothing of his diabetes and leukemia. They found out too late.

Nico and I went to the wake at Arlington late last night. Tito Jun's passing hasn't registered yet. Looking inside the coffin didn't convince me enough of death. I didn't see anyone with weary, tear-stained faces, only silent regret. I felt sadder than everyone else, but I know that wasn't true.

I was left thinking: if they can smile in a time like this, why can't I?

Buntong-hininga.

*sigh*

Gloomy Sunday.

Sunday is Gloomy,

My hours are slumberless,

Dearest, the shadows I live with are numberless

Little white flowers will never awaken you

Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you

Angels have no thought of ever returning you

Would they be angry if I thought of joining you

Gloomy Sunday

Sunday is gloomy

with shadows I spend it all

My heart and I have decided to end it all

Soon there'll be flowers and prayers that are sad,

I know, let them not weep,

Let them know that I'm glad to go

Death is no dream,

For in death I'm caressing you

With the last breath of my soul I'll be blessing you

Gloomy Sunday

Dreaming

I was only dreaming

I wake and I find you

Asleep in the deep of

My heart

Dear

Darling I hope that my dream never haunted you

My heart is telling you how much I wanted you

Gloomy Sunday

(Rezsô Seress)

Written in 1933, this song allegedly triggered several suicides (including Seress' ex-lover's death). Unsurprisingly he committed suicide several years after. It didn't stop the song from being popular. It was covered by a number of artists, including Billie Holiday, Björk and Sarah McLachlan.

Finally--- (a shameless plug)

--we're launching our bimonthly comic book! I art directed this one (although honestly I haven't seen more than half of it), I hope you guys can come join us.

GIRL POWER THIS JANUARY WITH MANGO JAM!

Prepare for girl power with Mango Jam, a 64-page bimonthly comic digest from Mango Comics! Jam at the Shang, the Mango Jam launch, will happen on January 29, 2005, from 2-6pm at the 5th level, Shangri-La Edsa Plaza. There will be booth activities, games, and fashion shows throughout the event. The first 100 girls to arrive and purchase a copy of Mango Jam will receive a goodie bag from Mango Comics and its partners.

Each Mango Jam comic magazine contains four stories written by notable female writers such as Palanca Award-winner Cyan Abad-Jugo, National Book Award-winner Nikki Go-Alfar, MTV Ink Editor-in-Chief Kristine Fonacier, and pop culture writer Karen Kunawicz. The stories are drawn by spectacular new female talent Glenda Abad, Maisa Deluria, Ellaine Guerrero, and Mia Reyes in the popular manga or anime-style of comic illustration created and popularized by the Japanese.

Mango Jam, published by Mango Comics, breaks new ground as the country's first all-female comic magazine (including the editorial staff). Each issue will also contain interviews, reviews, anime features and other articles of interest to young, intelligent, fun-loving Filipinas.

Mango Comics is the publisher of Mwahaha, MooMoo Hunters, Mars Ravelo's Lastikman, and the National Book Award-winning Mars Ravelo's Darna. Jam at the Shang is co-presented by Shangri-La Edsa Plaza, Jam 88.3, and Smart Kid.

One, two, ready--sing!

Kiwi: (singing to the tune of Bahay Kubo) Bahay kubo kahit munti, ang halaman doon ay sawi-sawi... atchaka mewon pa, labanos mustasa... Nasusunog ang bahay... Walang pinto ang bahay...

;-D

Take two.

Argh. I have the runs again. :-( This sux big time.

I have finally seen Blade Trinity last night with Nico. I didn't think much of the first movie, but I really enjoyed the second one and I hoped that the third movie would turn out as well as the second, if not better. So far, my thoughts on Trinity:

  • Jessica Biel is hot. And she kicks ass. Literally.
  • (Yes, I agree, Thor) Ryan Reynolds is hot. Mmm... And his character reminds me so much of Jason Lee (a personal favorite since Mallrats).
  • Dracula the monster is a far better actor than his human incarnation. Heh heh heh...
  • Never buy (and eat) those chicken empanadas at the movie snack counters even if you're hungry, unless you have some sick bathroom fetish. Bad empanada.

I'm not sure if the movie lived up to my expectations, nevertheless I was entertained. And I would surely see this movie again (see first two bullet points).

Oh, btw, I have several gmail invites to give away. E-mail me if you want a kick ass 1GB account.

'Four truths & a lie.'

I got this from haiku. Eto naman ako, uto-uto. (Chika!) Hahaha... :-)

Okay, so here goes my list:

  • I have tried to prematurely kick the bucket a few times before and I obviously failed/chickened out.
  • I have never checked in a motel, but I admit to having seen the interiors of one.
  • I have been unsuccessfully propositioned by at least three married men, and chances are, you know at least one of them.
  • On separate occasions I have been harrassed by Jollibee and Goldilocks.
  • The worst animal bite that I have sustained was inflicted by a human.

Ang hirap pala nitoh. Ayan, intriga. Kayo na bahala mag-isip kung alin jan ang whammy. Hehehe...

Waaah!

Waaahhh!!!

Bakit ako naiyak sa My Sassy Girl?!? Kasi ang doormat nung lalaki? Kasi engot yung babae?

Luka-luka.

(Wagi ka, Kathy! Thank you. Hehehe...) :-D

Gratitude.

It isn't right to spend your birthday with eyes like Jabba the Hut's.

***

Okay, perhaps yesterday wasn't so bad after all. At least the latter 12 hours of it made up for all the hassle and heartache that I've been through.

Nico dropped by yesterday afternoon to pick me up. I had Überlate lunch at Gayuma (the moussaka rawks) while Nico had tea & some dessert. Later we joined his dad for a Xiamen-style massage. (Nakakakiliti! Pero naka-de-stress siya.)

Afterwards we dropped by my dad's house and had dinner there. (We share the same birthday, but unfortunately, the sharing ends there.) Yesterday was also Nico's first time to meet my dad. (Sorry, Nico, that took over a year, we hardly see/talk to each other.)

Botched up plans to go see Blade Trinity and went to meet up with some of my good friends at Figaro instead. I love my friends. :-)

And now I'd like to thank the following people for remembering me yesterday, for at least spending one peso on an SMS, or a few minutes to send an instant message/e-mail:

• Thor and Wilmer (for the early greetings, for asking me out to dinner, for the company and the concern);
• Earnest (thanks for the free shirts! I'm only too happy to do it again...);
• Nico Navarro (you haven't forgotten! The time you guys took care of me and took me home is forever etched in memory. Thanks muchos.);
• Zarah and Chino (kahit hindi tayo madalas nagkikita, may karamay ako sa inyo);
• Justin & Bodge;
• Pao G (long time no see!);
• Kathy (astig ka bandmate! Thank you talaga. I owe you big time.);
• Indi (the first friendly voice of the day. Thank you for being the best ear in the worst of times.) & Adam (haha astig ng megaman post);
• Jing (I don't remember if I've thanked you for the last phone conversation we had, so here: thank you.);
• Reitch (happy birthday to you, too!);
• Bianca, Tita Tess & Tito Duds (I love the gift! Sheesh, I have so much to thank you for. I am touched.);
• Sel (long time no anything. I wonder what's up with you...);
• Troyboy & Osang (sorry hindi na ako nakasunod sa Paskong Pasiklab ha)
• Marnie (thanks for keeping me company, virtually or physically. Takisis ta namayay oyat!);
• Rory (weird nga ang mundong ito, ano? hehe);
• Chino worms (miss ko na ang gigs ninyo);
• Arnold and Honey :-);
• Bhel (yes, I agree, Diyosah! Thanks!)
• Luis ('amazing' is for people like you. Really.) :-);
• Vince T (you hardly ever forget eh? Thanks!);
• Ayoy & Istin (nagamit ko na 'yung Body Shop stuff! Mmmmm!!!);
• Jippi (thanks for the long distance laughs);
• Camille & Ryan;
• Jason Halo (sheesh I entirely forgot about that cd... I hope it's still with you.);
• Ian C (I still haven't sent you our pic!);
• Meh & Billy (see you in two weeks! Yihee.);
• Jovi & Charms;
• Koya Jon;
• Poch M;
• Aila & Mr. Z. (you still owe me cake, boy);
• Abie & Ani;
• Sonnyboybentot (malayo man, malapit din hehe); and,
• Nico, the first and last person to keep me company on my day. It may not have been all that good for us, but I'm still thankful. Thank you for the really kewl gifts. Thank you for being.

Having recently acquired the last two GC cds (c/o Nico) I am the proud owner of Graham's five full-length albums. I now dub myself an official Graham Coxon fan. :-D

Queasy of stomach.

(Marns, naaalala mo 'yung nabasa natin noon? Are you faint of heart? Queasy of stomach? Bwahahaha...)

Hayyy... On top of the on-and-off asthma I had a really nasty bout of the runs. Nakakapanghina ha. Ang weird lang kasi, hindi ako mashadong nagkakakain before that. Kainis. Death by tae talaga.

***

Kwento ni Nico kagabi: sabi mom niya nanaginip daw siya nung isang gabi na naging Jedi daw si Nico. (Actually Nico went into his parents' bedroom that night showing off his Obi Wan costume, and half-awake, Tita Tess forgot about it the day after.)

Hehehe... :-D

(Oh, I must add, I would like to give special mention to Aids who helped me through the costume thingy. Maraming salamat, chief. For your Jedi needs, contact Mr. Aids Arcega through the Purplechickens' yahoogroups.)

Happy as a clam.

Whatever that means.

Finally got to see Nico after two long months!!! He came by yesterday afternoon to pick me up.

We passed by Greenhills because Nico wanted to get some new PS2 games. Afterwards we went to the Duty Free Fiesta Mall where we ran into Timago who was about to go shopping with his family. Nico bought chocolates and junkfood. Lots. We dropped by Landmark before heading home, Nico had to run an errand for his dad.

***

Exchange gifts!!!

At last I was able to give my overdue gifts to Nico. It was a good thing the Obi Wan Episode 3 outfit fitted him nicely. I hope he likes. (Nico, pwede ka nang maging Jedi!!!)

I really liked what I got from Nico: Talkie Walkie (Air) cd with a bonus DVD (that's one off my wish list!), an ubercute Spongebob & Friends watch and a really nice sun and moon metal cd wallet. :-)

Ang saya saya. Ü

There's a first time for everything.

• First blog post of the year. Yeehaaah!

The New Year's eve party here at home went well. I woke up late, and therefore was useless to my mom who was busy preparing sustenance for the ocassion. I was assigned to think of the kiddie games for the evening so as soon as I got up (which was around 5:30 p.m. hehe) I made instant trivia questions (about my mom & the family in general), looked around for props for an elimination-type game, thought of well-hidden items for a bring-me round, and bought stuff for the paagaw. My brother decorated the house with balloons and we put slips of paper in a few for the balloon-bursting-consequence thingy. We had those fluorescent party bracelets, too. We made a complete mess of the living room and the garage, what with all the confetti cannons and the scrambling on the floor for tossed coins and goodies. It was tiring, but fun. Sumakit ang lalamunan ko. :-)

• First phone call of the year was from Nico who called at 00:09 to let me know that he just arrived. Wheee! :-)

• First gift of the year was a stuffed moose with a santa cap from my brother, a seasonal companion to my Santa dog. Hehehe... :-)

After all the games and gift-giving the kids and I went to see my dad. It's been several years since I last set foot inside my dad's house.

• New year's early dawn 2005 was the first time I kissed my dad on the cheek after 8 years (or probably more). :-P

Mejo weird na pinagsisilbihan ako ng tatay ko sa hapag-kainan. Hindi ako sanay.

Went home stuffed. Nico called as soon as he got home and then went to play with his new guitar effects as soon as we hung up. :-) I was able to get sleep despite the on and off asthma attacks.

Woke up in the afternoon. After being constantly badgered by Kiwi I finally gave in and took her out after dinner. She wanted to watch Enteng Kabisote (bleah!) but I told her it was too late for that (plus there's the fact that I really didn't want to watch the thing hehe) so we headed for the Marikina Riverpark tiangge instead. (Ang tapang ko ano? On new year's day pa. Hehehe...)

As expected, andaming tao. I took Kiwi to the Christmas in Asia display across the river. Ang ganda ha. May mga kinareer na set-up. Notable was the Indonesia set up, complete with shadow puppets and wall/ceiling decorations. We headed back to the tiangge area after I let her explore each 'country', and then made a spur-of-the-moment decision.

• Kiwi and I rode a boat from the Riverpark all the way to Riverbanks for the first time. If I'm not mistaken, it's also Kiwi's first time to ride such a thing.

Wala naman kasi talaga akong agenda kagabi. Lumabas lang kami for the sake of. At ang kulit talaga ni Kiwi magyaya ng lakwatcha. As soon as we got off the boat Kiwi started running towards the huge inflatable play areas (damn those things, they weren't invented yet in my time). I let her play on the giant inflatable slide. Nakakabilib ha, wala siyang takot sa heights, di tulad ko.

After a couple of ice cream cones, we headed home, Kiwi with a tired but happy face.

Happy new year to everyone. :-)
